Happy Eid

I have much pleasure in wishing my many Muslim friends and acquaintances a very happy Eid.

In saying that, I am conscious that recent events might cause them to feel anxious and insecure. The attack at the Finchley Park Mosque, for example, was clearly intended to spread terror amongst the Muslim community. Their response was impressive, as has been the practical compassion shown by Muslims to the victims of the recent terror attacks in Manchester and London and in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

I want to affirm that Christians stand shoulder to shoulder with our Muslim brothers and sisters in seeking to serve our neighbours, to build peace and to embody all that is best about the values that sustain our life in Scotland and the UK.
