Latvia’s “Night of Churches”

On the 27th of May, St. Saviour’s Anglican Church in Riga will be participating in Latvia’s yearly “Baznīcu nākts” (Night of Churches) event, where churches throughout the country are open all day and host special concerts, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, and prayers. Since St Saviour’s is the only Anglican church in Latvia, they like to try to represent other Anglican churches from throughout the world in their exhibitions, and this year are inviting Anglican churches around the world to send short 1-2 minute videos with greetings from the people of that church. They will be putting together an interactive map of the churches where all of the videos can be watched, and on the night of the event will have a special projector screen that shows all of the videos to their guests who come in and out of the church. This map will also be available for people around the world to enjoy, and have a snapshot of what all of these churches were like in the year 2023.

The video can be made however each church likes! Churches are welcome to tell something about their congregation, show their church building, sing a song, say a special prayer — it is totally up to them what they would like to make. The most important thing is that St Saviour’s is able to show many special churches to people both in Latvia and throughout the world. They kindly ask that videos are kept to a maximum of 2 minutes.

Videos and any text that you should be included with it in the description and on the map page can be sent to admin@anglicanriga.lv. Once each church has been added to the map, each church will be sent the link so that they can see their video and all the other churches as part of this project. We ask that churches please try their best to send the videos before the 25th of May.
