13 August 2025 @ 1:15 pm - 3:00 pm

With Christine De Luca & Robert Crawford, and Olivia Thrower (fiddle)

The first ever Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts Young Religious Poets Competition has completed its initial stage. Run in conjunction with the Scottish Poetry Library, for prizes funded by the Christian Arts Trust, the competition attracted a significant number of submissions. The judges have now settled on a short list of five.  They are:

Mary Kalinski: ‘IV. Svete Tikhiy (All-NIght Vigil)’
Viktor Korpi Kardell: ‘A Gabhail na Feola’
Nafsica Ladas: ‘Mater Dolorosa’
Aryana Petrosky: ‘We are but clay’
Hannah Scholz: ‘Insinnerate’

All the poems will be read by their authors at this lunchtime event in Canongate Kirk and the prize winners will then be announced.  The winning poems will be published on the Scottish Poetry Library website.  The two acclaimed Scottish poets who judged the competition, Robert Crawford and Christine De Luca, will also be reading selections from their work, interspersed with fiddle music.
