ABOUT THE CHURCH
Emmanuel is an Evangelical Anglican Church, under the umbrella of the Edinburgh Diocese of the Scottish Episcopal Church. The congregation is just 18 years old and grew out of the vision of Rev Denis Lennon, who at the time was the Rector of St Thomas’s Episcopal Church, Glasgow Road. On walking his dog along the top of Corstorphine Hill, Dennis was struck by the vast number of homes in the Clermiston and Clerwood area, and sensed the call of the Holy Spirit to plant a new congregation at the very heart of these communities. In 1988 Emmanuel was born, and since that time has met as a worshipping community in Fox Covert Primary School, just of the Clermiston Road. Today a typical Sunday congregation would be 60 people.
Emmanuel is deeply committed to the faithful teaching and preaching of the Bible, Spirit filled living, and witnessing to the power of the Gospel of Jesus, both here in Edinburgh, and further away through numerous mission links. Our Sunday worship is informal, based in prayerful preparation, and seeks to allow the Bible to speak powerfully and relevantly to the times in which we live. We share the Lord’s Supper twice a month. We are genuinely an all-age congregation with a wide spread of ages from babies to senior citizens. We have a vibrant network of home-group Bible studies and prayer fellowships, together with a clear focus on growing faith in children and young people.
