Everything we do as congregations springs from our faith. Sometimes it is at a very local level, like running toddler groups or a foodbank; sometimes we work with international organisations to support our neighbours in other countries. Here are some of the ways we engage as a Diocese.
Faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. James 2:17 (NLT)
Lent Appeal
Every year, the Bishop of Edinburgh shares a chosen charity with the Diocese and invites members to make donations as part of their Lenten discipline. In 2024 and 2025, charities supporting children in Israel/Occupied Palestinian Territories have been the beneficiaries.
Environmental Group
One of our Five Marks of Mission is “To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth”. The Diocesan Environmental Group works with the national Net Zero team and congregations to inform and support this work.
Christian Aid
Christian Aid is the official relief, development, and advocacy agency of the Scottish Episcopal Church. We support them to work in partnership with many partners and sister organisations across the world in a bid to end poverty and injustice.
Eco-Congregations
Over half of our congregations engage with the eco-congregation movement, linking environmental issues to faith, reducing their environmental impact, and engaging with the community.
