A Christmas Message from The Bishop of Edinburgh
“Christmas is an invitation to escape into joy – not to escape from reality.”
Many elements of the Christmas story describe a less-than-perfect world, much like the one in which we live.
In his Christmas message, The Bishop of Edinburgh, The Rt Revd Dr John Armes, discusses our celebrations not just as affirmations of hope in the love of God, but as acts of resistance and protest against all that destroys goodness.
“As I wish you a happy Christmas, I pray that you may know the joy that God is with you and with this world. And that your celebrations may be an affirmation of hope in the love of God, and be acts of resistance – resistance and protest – against all that destroys life and goodness. And may our small acts of love and kindness, over the coming year, be signs of our deep conviction, founded in God, that light is always stronger than darkness.”
Thank you also to local artist Andy Archer for his lovely work, which featured on our Diocesan Christmas card this year.
