Cathedral Christmas stamps mentioned in Parliament

St Mary’s Cathedral was mentioned in Parliament last week by Tracy Gilbert, MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, and The Rt Hon Lucy Powell MP, Lord President of the Council & Leader of the House of Commons, in relation to Royal Mail’s Christmas stamps depicting the cathedral. Tracy Gilbert MP spoke of the uncertainty facing many magnificent churches and cathedrals across the UK, and called for a debate on the future of these churches.

The Bishop of Edinburgh, The Rt Revd Dr John Armes, said: “Thank you to Tracy Gilbert, MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, for mentioning St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral and its iconic three spires in Parliament last week, as well as the challenges faced by many churches across the UK. Thank you to Tracy, as well as to The Rt Hon Lucy Powell MP, Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons, for their congratulations following the Cathedral’s inclusion in Royal Mail’s set of Christmas stamps this year.”
