Bishop Dagmar’s Summer Walking Tour

This summer, Bishop Dagmar and Tilda the dog took a two-day walking tour to visit 17 (around one-third) of the Diocese of Edinburgh’s churches. Bishop Dagmar wrote short accounts of each walk on her Facebook page, where you can find more pictures.

Day One (Thursday 30 July): City Walk

Route: Holy Cross, Davidson’s Mains; St David’s, Pilton; St James, Goldenacre; St James the Less, Leith; St Margaret of Scotland, Easter Road; St Vincent’s Chapel, Stockbridge; St Ninian, Comely Bank; St John’s, Princes Street; St Columba’s by the Castle; Old Saint Paul’s; St Peter’s, Lutton Place; St Michael & All Saints, Tollcross; St Martin of Tours, Dalry Road; Christ Church, Morningside.

Bishop Dagmar wrote on her Facebook page: ‘From Holy Cross (Morning Prayer) to Holy Corner (Compline): It was a fascinating city churches crawl yesterday, seeing close up so many different neighbourhoods, with lovely fellow walkers and wonderful welcomers at the various churches on these flying visits. Thank you so much to you all – and for all you do day in, day out for the ministry and mission of our church.’

Day Two (Saturday 31 July): Borders Walk

Route: St John’s, Selkirk; Holy Trinity, Melrose; St Peter’s, Galashiels.

Bishop Dagmar wrote on her Facebook page: ‘What a glorious walk it was on Saturday in Edinburgh Diocese’s Borders region: Beautiful countryside, views of the Eildon Hills, Tweed riverside, including passing the spot where the Gala flows into the Tweed.

‘We talked, we got to know one another, we prayed and enjoyed each other’s company.

‘And such kind and generous and delicious hospitality in Selkirk, Melrose and Galashiels (yes, I was not the only one thoroughly enjoying the Selkirk Bannock for tea)! Thank you very much indeed to the lovely catering teams.’

Bishop Dagmar is hugely grateful for the warm welcome and hospitality received in the various charges.
