New Recruitment Guide for Congregations

A new guide has been published to steer congregations in the Scottish Episcopal Church through the process of recruiting rectors or priests in charge.

The Church Times Guide to Happy Recruitment, a collaboration between the Scottish Episcopal Church, 3D Coaching and The Church Times, is friendly and easy to read. The guide’s introduction describes how and when it would be most helpful to congregations:

As many congregations discover, there are several factors at play when it comes to recruiting, and it’s best to be aware of these at all times, even when you’re basking in the glow of a happy and successful relationship with a leader who has declared publicly that they have no interest in ever going anywhere else.

Things can change overnight. This guide has been written to help you when they do.

There are sections on the Vacancy, or Interregnum, conducting a congregational audit and producing the Congregational Profile, advertising the post, keeping things legal and fair, and handling interviews. Cartoons by Dave Walker of Cartoon Church add insight and humour, and the feeling that you’re far from alone in the process.
