Discerning our On-Going Call to Leadership in God’s Church

Please click here to register by 9am on Friday 2nd February.

God’s call to us is not a one-time event, it is a continuous gift. And each phase of our ministry, whilst demanding our whole attention, yet is also preparing us for the next step on our journey. This training day is first and foremost an opportunity to reflect again on God’s call to us – perhaps to be affirmed, perhaps to be surprised. But it will also offer opportunities to hear from those in senior leadership about the jobs they do. We know that a number of senior posts will be coming up across the SEC in the next few years, might God be calling you, or someone you know, to explore these possibilities?

Following on from this day, it is hoped individuals will have the opportunity for confidential conversations, and useful training courses in some of the skills needed in leadership. This day will be repeated across the Province and it is open to clergy from all our dioceses.

Morning Sessions: Discerning Our On-Going Call: We are used to thinking of vocation as both internal and external calling. Harriet will explore with us the variety of ways in which we do and can embody the typologies of Christ, so that we have broader and deeper resources for growing our discernment. We will all leave with new resources and insights for leading our lives and for discerning our next steps in ministry.

Session Three: ‘Senior’ Leadership in God’s Church: Bishop, Dean and Provost… What does it involve? What do we wish we had known?

Final Session: What Now? How would you describe your style of leadership? Considering your leadership style and the content for senior leadership, can you describe fully how you: envision and lead in mission and ministry; steward resources necessary for mission and ministry; manage change and growth in a constructive way; contribute to the provincial leadership of the Scottish Episcopal Church and of the Anglican Communion; represent the Church in the public square, offering a prophetic and compassionate voice on contemporary issues? What is your strategy for nurturing and refreshing your sense of vocation, praying for the leading of God’s Spirit?
