The Diocese of Edinburgh churches have many different ways to worship God and to preach the Gospel – a wide variety of church styles.

As part of the Scottish Episcopal Church, our liturgies have a long tradition which is then adapted in different situations.

Sometimes we find the urge to pray, but don’t know how to. Prayer is simply listening to and talking to God. There are some ideas here from our diocese, and lots of resources for prayer stations and different ways of prayer at Thy Kingdom Come (a global prayer initiative each year between Ascension Day and Pentecost). Also have a look at the Youth and Children’s pages for creative ways to pray – both as individuals and in church settings – and suitable for both young people and not-so- young people!

A central part of the spirituality of our church is the rhythm of Daily Prayer. During the pandemic, many churches in the Diocese have started to join together on Zoom each day to worship with Daily Prayer. Please contact us if you’d like to be put in touch with one. You could also pray for the diocese in our 2022 cycle of prayer.

Within the diocese, we have people who have developed different ministries, including Creative Bible Journalling , many churches have labyrinths – both inside and out (eg St Ninian’s, St Mark’s), musical ministries (eg OSP, St Johns, St Mary’s Cathedral).

Many of our buildings (especially in the city centre) are open during the day, and others have peaceful gardens for reflection (Good Shepherd, St Ninian’s Comely Bank, St Columba’s by the Castle, St Mark’s Portobello).
